The Area

Why people love Kennett Square.

Kennett Square is a borough in southern Chester County with a walkable State Street core, an unusually good restaurant scene for its size, and a strong sense of local identity. Known worldwide for mushroom production, it is also a short drive from Longwood Gardens, which shapes both the visitor economy and the surrounding landscape. Housing ranges from historic borough homes on tight lots to newer developments and larger properties in the surrounding townships, so the difference between a borough address and a Kennett Square mailing address in the townships is significant, and it is one of the first things I clarify with buyers. The surrounding countryside and preserved land are a large part of why people choose this corner of the county.

The Kennett Consolidated School District serves the borough and much of the surrounding area. Buyers drawn here are often trading a shorter commute for more character and more land, and that trade needs to be made with open eyes: some of the routes north and east can be slow at peak times. Older borough homes reward a careful inspection, particularly around roofs, systems, and any past renovation work. For sellers, Kennett buyers tend to be motivated by lifestyle rather than pure square footage, so telling the story of the property and its setting well is worth real effort. I will help you decide what to fix, what to disclose, and where to price. County information and services are available at Chester County. It is common to weigh Kennett Square against Chadds Ford and West Chester before deciding, and those are markets I cover too. I would rather help you compare them honestly, including the trade-offs nobody puts in a listing, than push you toward the first house that ticks most of the boxes.
